Sewn Up: 8 Stylish Knits To Add To Your Wardrobe For Spring 2025

As the days grow longer and the air becomes milder, spending leisure time outside becomes a realistic prospect once again. In this case, knitwear is probably the furthest thing from your mind. You probably think of it as a cornerstone of your winter wardrobe. Something to be layered and wrapped up in – not the kind of clothing you call on when spring finally arrives.

But to disregard knits in the spring is to do yourself and your style a disservice. Here in 2025, there are all sorts of interesting ways to weave knits into your transitional wardrobe. And doing so can liven things up by adding some texture, and even introducing a touch of pattern and colour.

But before you go reaching for the chunky fisherman knit, it’s worth noting that not any old knit will do. Many jumpers, cardigans and knitted accessories are most at home in the colder months, but there are a select few that can elevate your spring style when deployed correctly. Here are our favourites this season.

Knitted Polo

Wax London

Starting off with a classic, the knitted polo is transitional knitwear in its most obvious form. It’s a great alternative to a traditional piqué polo, offering a bit more texture, visual depth and an overall different feel.

It can be smarter or more laid-back, depending on the material and how tight or open the knit is. For a sharper look, opt for plain colours in fine-gauge merino or even cashmere. For a more relaxed feel, choose a nice, loose knit with a bit of pattern or some contrast detail running through it.

Slouchy Cardigan

Todd Snyder

Cardigans aren’t just for the cold weather. Buy the right one and it will be at home in the spring too. The trick lies in how you style it.

Stop thinking of it as a layering piece and treat it as a light outer layer instead. Wear it in place of an overshirt or a hoodie, both of which are time-honoured staples, but can get a bit boring. Think slightly slouchy, maybe a bit hairy, and don’t shy away from pattern either.

Brands like Beams Plus, Needles and Wax London have some fantastic options.

Cream Crew Neck

Velasca

If we could pick just one piece of spring knitwear, this would be it. It’s a true three-season garment that can be dressed up, dressed down and layered depending on the occasion and the time of year.

It should be trim without feeling tight so that you can comfortably throw a light jacket over the top. This will allow you to add an extra layer of warmth when the weather calls for it, using it as a transitional piece to reinforce your lightweight outerwear when needed.

Knitted Tee

Velasca

Knitted T-shirts are less common than their collared cousins, but that’s why we like them. Switch a bog-standard cotton tee out for one of these and you’ve instantly added a bit of character to what would otherwise be a simple outfit at best, or a boring outfit at worst.

It offers more texture, it can have interesting details and/or patterns woven into the knit, and, ultimately, it’s just a bit more exciting than the standard cotton version.

Sweater Vest

SIRPLUS

Will Smith was supposed to be the more style-savvy of the two teenagers in The Fresh Prince, but in today’s fashion landscape, it’s Carlton who the menswear crowd would be more likely to take styling inspiration from.

Preppy pieces have been back on the menu for a while now. Even one that would have been unthinkable only a few years prior. Case in point: the sweater vest.

Styled right, these sleeveless knits can look good, but you have to think outside the box. For example, instead of pairing one with a collared shirt and chinos, which could come across as a bit old-fashioned and stuffy, layer one over a T-shirt and lean into the preppy aspect with some cropped straight-leg jeans, white crew socks, and a pair of loafers instead.

Knitted Camp Collar Shirt

Reiss

This knitted variation of a warm-weather classic perfectly bridges the gap between winter and summer. Like its linen counterpart, it’s relaxed and breezy, but with the added warmth to carry you through slightly cooler days.

The knitted fabric holds dye well, which makes a camp collar shirt the perfect vehicle for a bit of pattern or a bold pop of colour, and it pairs well with either shorts or trousers, so you can continue to wear it as the weather gets even warmer.

Fine Gauge Crew Neck

Luca Faloni

Much like a light jacket or a gilet, this is one of transitional layering’s hero pieces – something no man should be without.

It’s also your opportunity to add a bit of luxury and refinement. If you can, opt for an upscale cashmere option that you can wear with everything.

Think fitted and subtle for maximum wearability across your spring wardrobe, and opt for a versatile colour like navy, beige or charcoal that will work with anything and everything.

Statement Knitted Shirt

Percival

Here’s your chance to add a playful element to your spring outfits. A knitted shirt is one of those pieces that’s just crying out for pattern and colour, and that looks good with it. Think stripes if you’re keeping it conservative, and all-over geometric designs for something a little more eye-catching.

Either way, style it with laid-back pieces like jeans and sneakers to keep it casual, or dress it up with tailored wool pants and a pair of leather loafers.
